As an editor, a freelance writer, and a teacher of writing, I have been working with words throughout my professional life. I’ve taught writing in college and university classes and in lifelong learning classes. I’ve also written articles for local and regional publications and edited a variety of articles, dissertations, resumes, and cover letters.
In working at the Writing Center at Michigan State University, I coordinated interdisciplinary writing support groups for graduate students in fields ranging from engineering to sociology to nursing. Members helped each other to improve organization, clarity, grammar, and style in their reports, articles, and dissertations. In facilitating these groups, I gained an in-depth understanding of the technical terms and differing styles used in various professions.
More recently, I copy edited the newspaper published daily during the biennial meeting (2014) of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and I proofread Germans in Louisville: A History, published in 2015. I have also edited letters from mission co-workers for publication on the website of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). |
